Huskers Fall at Maryland

College Park, Md. - Despite outshooting the Terrapins, the Nebraska soccer team fell at Maryland 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to close regular-season road competition.

Sarah Weber led the way offensively for the Huskers with a pair of shots, but it was not enough as Nebraska dropped to 4-9-1 (1-6-1 Big Ten) and Maryland improved to 4-8-4 (1-6-1 Big Ten) on the season.

In the opening five minutes of the game, Lauryn Anglim tallied the first shot of the game and was the lone shot on goal in the first half until Maryland’s Delaney DeMartino found the back of the net in the 41st minute. Down 1-0 with less than 30 seconds to go, Nebraska had a free kick opportunity just outside the area, but Weber sent the shot high over the goal and Maryland entered halftime with the score advantage.

Nebraska had an opportunity to net the equalizer as Weber sent a header across the six-yard box to Abbey Schwarz who struck the post, and the score remained. Despite being down a player after Schwarz’ second yellow card of the game in the 52nd minute, the Huskers battled, taking a pair of shots, but Maryland scored again and held on for the 2-0 win.

Sami Hauk earned her sixth start of the season and played the entire game as she was joined by Reese Borer, Anglim, Weber and Haley Peterson who also played the entire 90 minutes.

Up next, Nebraska returns home to host Oregon on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Washington on Sunday, Oct. 20. Thursday’s match, set for 7:05 p.m. (CT), and Sunday’s match, starting at 1:05 p.m. (CT), will both be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
