The No. 7 Nebraska Rifle team finished second in a three-team match Saturday at Ohio State. NU defeated No. 9 Ohio State, 4,708-4,685 and fell to No. 12 Navy, 4,716-4,708.
The Huskers grabbed two of the top five overall spots. Junior Emma Rhode placed first with an aggregate score of 1,190, while freshman Alivia Perkins finished in fourth place with a score of 1,179.
“The girls have been working really hard in practice and it’s nice to see their hard work translate into a match setting,” said Rhode. “Going into tomorrow’s match, we hope to take the lessons we learned today and improve.”
Nebraska put two shooters in the top five in the air rifle. Rhode took second place with a mark of 594, and Perkins placed third with a score of 593. Maddy Moyer (ninth, 589), Camilla Johannessen (11th, 587), and Grace Corbett (17th, 584) rounded out the lineup for the Big Red.
In the smallbore, the Huskers took three of the top five spots. Rhode placed first with a personal best score of 596, also taking the second-highest smallbore score in team history. Perkins came in third with a score of 586, and Moyer took fourth with a score of 586. The tiebreaker was determined by the number of 10-point shots by each athlete. Johannessen (15th, 577) followed, and Corbett (16th) finished out the lineup with a personal-best score of 576. As a team, NU shot a season high team score in the smallbore, with a score of 2,345.
Nebraska will stay in Ohio as they take on No. 14 Akron in its final match of the fall in Akron, Ohio on Sunday, Nov. 17. The match is set to start at 7 a.m. (central)
