The Nebraska men’s tennis team is set to open its 2025 spring season at home on Saturday, Jan. 18 with a doubleheader against Drake and Bellarmine. The Huskers host the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. and the Knights at 4 p.m. (CT) at the Dillon Tennis Center to start their dual campaign.
In the fall, the Big Red competed at five tournaments, garnering 48 singles and 13 doubles wins. Junior Lars Johann finished the season claiming runner-up at the Big Ten Individuals tournament. Johann and junior Leo Linquet also took down No. 62 Nordby/Yang 6-1 at the tournament, but fell in the next round. Senior Calvin Mueller was selected for the Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch list after the fall season. Junior Nikolay Sysoev led the team in fall singles success, going 11-4 (.733).
NU looks to improve on its 2023-24 spring season finish of 17-10. The team reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, and concluded with the most dual wins in a season since 1990. The Big Red finished with a national ranking of No. 49, and Mueller being named First Team All-Big Ten.
DRAKE (0-0)

The Bulldogs enter the 2025 spring season with a reloaded roster, after graduating six letterwinners from last year. Drake returns three from its Summit League runners-up team, and has added five new Bulldogs. Sophomore Ben Johnson was selected as Drake’s preseason athlete to watch, while the Bulldogs were picked to finish fifth in the Summit League in the preseason poll. Drake was 11-9 in the 2023-24 season.
BELLARMINE (0-0)
History: 0-0
The Knights competed in six team events in the fall, including senior Jack Batchelor and junior Matthew Nice representing the Atlantic Sun Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championships. The team tallied 33 singles wins and 19 doubles wins, led by Batchelor who claimed 19 total wins. Bellarmine was 7-14 in the 2023-24 season.
The double header duals will be hosted at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, where parking and admission are free. Concessions will be available, and no outside food or drink is allowed.
