The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (1-6, 0-1 Big Ten) will compete in its first home meet on Sunday, Jan. 26 against the Maryland Terrapins (2-3, 0-1 Big Ten). It is slated to start at 4:00 p.m. (CT) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and will be streamed on B1G.
Doors will open at 3:00 and fans can purchase tickets here. There will be a free Husker cowboy hat giveaway for fans at the meet while supplies last.
Saturday’s matchup marks the 25th time that Nebraska and Maryland have met. NU holds a 16-7-1 lead in the series. The last time the two teams faced off was at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, when Maryland grabbed a 196.775-196.250 victory.
Last Time Out
The Big Red, who is ranked No. 26 in the Road to Nationals standings, fell to Illinois in its first conference matchup of the year. Nebraska athletes recorded five career highs and grabbed three event titles.
The Huskers enjoyed numerous career highs at the meet – Sophia McClelland on floor (9.925), Whitney Jencks on floor (9.875), Isabel Sikon on bars (9.800) and Emalee Frost on bars (9.775). McClelland shared the floor title with a 9.925 and won the beam title outright with a 9.850. Emma Spence earned a 9.900 on bars to split the title.
Scouting the Competition
Maryland is ranked No. 29 in the Road to Nationals standings, with an average team score of 195.125 this season. The Terrapins are 2-3 on the season, with wins over Arizona State and Temple.
Sierra Kondo led UM in its most recent meet against UCLA, scoring a career-high and tying the program's individual record with a 9.950 on bars. Rhea LeBlanc also led floor with a 9.850 and took second on vault with a 9.825.
