The Huskers open the new year with a top-10 matchup in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. (CT). The final non-conference dual of the season, the Big Red’s trip to Northern Iowa will feature up to 10 ranked bouts, with ranked wrestlers in every weight class for both programs. The two teams enter Sunday with undefeated dual records, UNI being 3-0 and NU at 5-0.
With a win, head coach Mark Manning would achieve 300 dual wins at Nebraska. Prior to NU, Manning was the head coach at UNI, where he claimed his additional 23 career dual wins.
The Sunday afternoon dual will be streamed on FloWrestling, and live stats will be available on TrackWrestling.
On the slate, there are five potential rematches. At 125, #5 Caleb Smith is 1-0 against Trever Anderson. #20 Jacob Van Dee is 1-2 against Julian Farber at 133. At 141, it will be a top-10 matchup between #5 Brock Hardy and #8 Cael Happel, who leads the series 2-1. Perhaps the matchup of the day, #5 Ryder Downey and #3 Antrell Taylor will meet again just under a month after their bout in the 157 Cliff Keen final, where Taylor took the 4-3 win and title. Also at the 2024 Cliff Keen Invitational, #16 Jared Simma defeated #17 Lenny Pinto.
The highest ranked opponent yet for the Big Red, there are up to three top-10 ranked bouts on Sunday, at 141, 157, and in what would be their first meeting, #2 Parker Keckeisen and #5 Silas Allred at 184.
