Huskers Set for Battle Against Iowa

The No. 25 Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (2-6, 1-1 Big Ten) will compete on Saturday, Feb. 1 against the Iowa Hawkeyes (1-3, 0-2 Big Ten). It is slated to start at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and will be streamed on B1G+.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and fans can purchase tickets here. There will also be autographs for season ticket holders and kids club in the Hospitality Courtside Room after the meet.

Saturday’s matchup marks the 44th time that Nebraska and Iowa have faced off. NU holds a 32-11 lead in the series. The last time the two teams faced off was at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, when Nebraska clinched a 196.250-193.975 victory.

Last Time Out
The Big Red, who is ranked No. 25 in the Road to Nationals standings, grabbed a 196.325-195.950 victory over Maryland on Sunday.

The Huskers grabbed five individual titles at the meet – Lauren Homecillo on floor (9.950), Whitney Jencks on bars (9.900) and Emma Spence on vault (9.825), beam (9.900) and all-around (39.475). Those were also career highs for Homecillo and Jencks, as well as season highs for Spence on vault and beam.

Following their impressive performances last week, Spence and Homecillo both earned Big Ten weekly awards. Spence was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, while Homecillo was the Big Ten Specialist of the Week.

Scouting the Competition
Iowa sits at the bottom of the Big Ten, with a high team score of 195.625. The Hawkeyes hold Big Ten losses to No. 9 Ohio State and No. 20 Minnesota.

Aurélie Tran led Iowa in its most recent meet, a 197.325-195.625 loss against No. 20 Minnesota, posting a season-high all-around score of 39.475 to claim the title.
