Huskers Set to Host No. 6 Michigan State

The No. 23 Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (2-8, 1-3 Big Ten) will welcome the No. 6 Michigan State Spartans (6-2, 3-1 Big Ten) on Saturday, Feb. 15 . The meet is slated to start at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and will be streamed on B1G+.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and fans can purchase tickets here. The first fans through the door will be given Nebraska buttons, while supplies last.

Saturday’s matchup marks the 32nd time that Nebraska and Michigan State have faced off. NU holds a 22-9 lead in the series. The two teams faced off earlier this season in a quad meet at Gainesville, Florida on Friday, Jan. 10, where the Spartans were victorious 196.650-195.600.

Last Time Out
The Big Red suffered a road loss on Sunday to Michigan, 197.100-196.750, at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor.

Sophia McClelland led Nebraska in the all-around, claiming the title with a 39.375 along with the floor title by scoring a 9.925. Isabel Sikon also grabbed a share of the vault title with a 9.825.

Nebraska put together its highest team score up to this point in the season, along with season high event scores on bars and floor.

Scouting the Competition
Michigan State currently sits tied for fourth place in the Big Ten and sits at No. 6 overall in the Road to Nationals poll. Besides Nebraska, the Spartans have conference victories over No. 16 Minnesota, No. 17 Michigan and No. 20 Ohio State, with a loss to No. 5 UCLA. They average a team score of 197.079, with their highest being 197.500 against Michigan.

Nikki Smith, the reigning Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week, led Michigan State in its most recent meet, a 197.475-196.800 victory over the Golden Gophers. Smith took home the all-around title with a season-high 39.575, including a share of the bars title. MSU grabbed at least a share of every event title.
