The No. 10 Nebraska rifle team defeated No. 13 Ohio State, 4,692-4,688 on Saturday in its NCAA qualifier match in Columbus, Ohio.
Today’s score will make up half of the team’s qualifying score and will be combined with the average of Nebraska's top-three team scores at different locations from this season. Those scores are 4,731 (at Army, 1/25/25), 4,720 (vs. UTEP, 11/10/24) and 4,710 (at Akron, 11/17/24).
Freshman Maddy Moyer placed first overall with an aggregate score of 1,186, posting a career best. She was closely followed by junior Emma Rhode, who placed second with a score of 1,184. Alivia Perkins placed seventh with an aggregate mark of 1,164, and Camilla Johannessen (ninth, 1,156) rounded out the top individuals for the match.
“The saying ‘anything can happen on qualifier day’ rings true,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “The team fought hard resulting in glimpses of our potential, unfortunately we couldn’t put it all together. It was fun to watch Maddy post an aggregate PR today and Emma have yet another strong performance. It now becomes a waiting game to see where all the other teams land in determining who gets to NCAAs.”
NU shot a team score of 2,323 in the smallbore and took the top two spots in the event. Rhode placed first with a score of 589, and Moyer placed second with the same score. The tiebreaker was determined by the amount of 10-point shots by each athlete. Perkins placed eighth with a mark of 575, while Johannessen (10th, 570) and Grace Corbett (14th, 558) finished out the lineup for the Big Red.
The Huskers placed two shooters in the top five in the air rifle. Moyer earned the top spot with a mark of 597, which tied her personal best that she set at TCU on Nov. 2. Rhode took third with a score of 595 while Perkins (seventh, 589), Johannessen (ninth, 588) and Corbett (13th, 577) rounded out the lineup for Nebraska in the air rifle.
