Kono Leads Huskers at Westbrook

Hannah Kono finished with a three-under-par 213 over three rounds to tie for 21st individually, leading the Nebraska women's golf team to a 12th-place finish at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, Monday.

Kono, a sophomore from Enkoping, Sweden, closed the tournament with a 73 (+1) that included an eagle on the par-4, 353-yard 13th hole. Kono's final round followed back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2) on the par-72, 6,248-yard layout of Westbrook Village's Vistas Course to open the tournament on Sunday.

Miu Takahashi matched Kono with a 73 on Monday, while finishing in a tie for 44th overall at 219 (+3) in the 78-player field. The senior from Nasu-machi, Japan opened the tournament with an even-par 72, before settling for a 74 (+2) in Sunday's second round.

Freshman Danica Lundgren and sophomore Arden Louchheim tied for 55th at 223 (+7). Lundgren closed the tournament with a 74 (+2), while Louchheim added a 75 (+3) to complete Nebraska's final-round team score of 295 (+7) on Monday.

The top four in the Husker lineup joined forces for a 292 (+4) in the opening round and a 291 (+3) in the second round, as Nebraska finished at 878 (+14) in the 14-team tournament field.

Freshman Eden Lohrbach completed Nebraska's lineup with a 54-hole score of 228 (+12), including a 75 on Monday to tie for 66th. Fellow freshman Olivia Lovegrove matched Lundgren and Louchheim for 55th while competing as an individual outside the Husker lineup. Lovegrove, a Lincoln Christian graduate, matched Kono for Nebraska's best individual score of the event with a 70 (-2) in Sunday's second round.

Led by individual medalist Lauren Clark's 199 (-17), Kansas ran away with the team title with a three-round score of 825 (-39). The Jayhawks defeated UNLV (834) by nine strokes, while Kansas State finished 15 strokes back of its in-state rivals at 840 (-24).

Nebraska returns to action next weekend at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona (March 2-4).
