The Nebraska women’s golf team is back in Arizona this weekend to compete in the MountainView Collegiate hosted by Kansas State, March 2-4.
The three-day tournament at The Preserve Golf Club opens on Sunday with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 at 9 a.m. (CT), before continuing with the second round on the same schedule Monday morning. The 54-hole event on par-72, 6,345-yard layout at The Preserve concludes with Tuesday’s final round featuring a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. (CT).
The Huskers will be part of a strong 14-team field that features Iowa and Wisconsin from the Big Ten, along with Missouri and Oklahoma from the SEC. The hosts from Kansas State will join Arizona, Cincinnati and TCU from the Big 12, while Furman, Hawaii, Marshall, Miami and Wichita State round out the field.
Hannah Kono will play out of the top spot in the Husker lineup after leading Nebraska with a tie for 21st individually at last week’s Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 23-24). Kono fired a career-best 213 (-3) over three rounds on the Vistas Course at the Westbrook Village Golf Club, including back-to-back career-best rounds of 70 (-2) to open the tournament. The sophomore from Enkoping, Sweden, owns a 74.40 stroke average over 15 rounds in her first season as a Husker.
Miu Takahashi played solid golf at Westbrook, finishing with a 54-hole score of 219 (+3). The senior from Nasu-machi, Japan opened the spring with a career-best 209 (-7) including a career-best 67 (-5) in the first round of the PDI Intercollegiate in Orlando. Takahashi tied for 44th at Westbrook after tying for 11th in the spring opener.
Danica Lundgren makes her third consecutive lineup appearance for the Huskers at MountainView. The freshman from Austin, Texas, produced the best effort of her young career with a tie for third at the PDI Intercollegiate - hosted by UCF (Feb. 2-4). Lundgren scorched the Eagle Creek course in Orlando with a career-best 207 (-9) that included an opening-round 68 and a career-best 67 (-5) in the final round. She tied for 55th at 223 (+7) at Westbrook.
Sophomore Arden Louchheim matched Lundgren in a tie for 55th at Westbrook. Louchheim will also be making her third straight lineup appearance of the spring in Tucson.
Senior Andrea Velez rounds out Nebraska’s top five at MountainView, while freshman Olivia Lovegrove will complete the Nebraska contingent by playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup for the second straight event. The Lincoln Christian grad matched Louchheim and Lundgren in a tie for 55th last week at Westbrook.
