Miu Takahashi fired a five-under-par 67 and Danica Lundgren contributed a career-best 68 (-4) to lead the Nebraska women's golf team in the opening round of the PDI Intercollegiate - hosted by UCF in Orlando on Sunday.
Takahashi, a senior from Japan, recorded five birdies and 13 pars on the 6,392-yard, par-72 layout at the Eagle Creek Golf Course to end the first round in a tie for third place in the individual standings. Lundgren, a freshman from Texas, carded seven birdies to offset three bogeys while managing eight pars to sit in a tie for fifth entering Monday's second round.
Sophomore Arden Louchheim added an even-par 72 that included an eagle on the 484-yard, par-5 13th hole.
Redshirt sophomore Symran Shah rounded out Nebraska's opening-round team score with her 75 (+3), as the Huskers put up the fourth-best round of the day with a 282 (-6) to sit in a tie for fourth with Tulsa.
As a team, Nebraska finished the day with 15 birdies and one eagle, while dedicating all of them to Hope Pinkelman, a young girl from Omaha who is recently began treatment for leukemia.
No. 27 Baylor posted the best team round on Sunday with a 277 (-11), while No. 18 Duke completed the round at 280 (-8). South Florida heads to Monday's second round in third at 281 (-7), just one stroke ahead of the Huskers.
Nebraska sits one stroke ahead of No. 10 Mississippi State and No. 13 North Carolina at 283 (-5) and two shots in front of No. 24 Kansas and the hosts from UCF at 284 (-4).
South Florida's Cherry Marley produced Sunday's best individual round with a 65 (-7), while KU's Lauren Clark moves to the second round in second place at 66 (-6).
