Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team competed at the University of California-Berkeley against No. 10 Cal and No. 1 Oklahoma. The Huskers scored a 317.100. Senior Joey Pepe earned the Huskers' 300th parallel bar title. Chase Mondi on floor and Taylor Christopulos on high bar earned event titles.
Floor
Mondi nabbed a 14.20 with a stick to put him in first on the floor exercise. Luke James tied for fifth with a 13.70. Chris Hiser put up a 13.05 to tie for eighth and Nathan York had a 12.90 for 12th place. Mondi now has two floor titles this season.
Pommel Horse
York claimed third place on the pommel horse with a 13.75; Yanni Chronopoulos came in fifth with a 13.40. James Friedman was the 10th finisher with a 12.75. Christopulos had a 10.85 for 12th.
Still Rings
The Big Red’s Friedman had another stick for a 13.80, good for third place. Chronopuolos took seventh (13.20), Hiser was eighth (13.10), and Asher Cohen’s season debut tied him at ninth (12.85).
Vault
Cal came for the sweep of the top four spots. Mondi came in fifth place with a 14.00. Junior York, just behind Mondi, had a 13.95. James and Nitache tied for seventh with a 13.90.
Parallel Bars
Pepe performed excellently to put up a 13.95 for his first individual title. The Senior claimed Nebraska’s 300th individual title on parallel bars and the third straight title for the Huskers. The Big Red’s Nitache nabbed a second-place finish with a 13.90. York tied for seventh with a 13.15 and Chronopoulos was ninth with a 13.05.
High Bar
Christopulos earned his second high bar title with a 13.65. Odden tied for fifth, putting up a 12.70. Partridge earned an 11.90 for 10th, and Mondi tied for 11th at 11.50.
Up next, the Huskers head back to Lincoln to continue Big Ten competition with Ohio State at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. (CT). The meet will be streamed on B1G+ and admission is free.
