With a 6-3 start to its spring season, the Nebraska men’s tennis team looks to continue its win streak on home courts on Sunday, March 2, hosting Creighton (8-3) at 4 p.m. (CT). The Bluejays come to Lincoln as the final non-conference opponent for the Big Red, as the #40 Huskers head into Big Ten play next weekend.
The Sunday afternoon match will be the fourth home dual this season for the Huskers after their 2-0 road stint. Doubles duo Leo Linquet and Joan Torres Espinosa are 7-4, while Nikolay Sysoev leads the team in singles with a record of 5-2 in the spring. In the rankings, Senior Calvin Mueller is currently at No. 108 in the national ITA rankings, while doubles duo Anton Shepp and Lars Johann are ranked No. 42.
Creighton (8-3, 1-1 Big East)
History: NU leads 53-2
The Bluejays bring in Big East singles player of the week Yuma Daijima and doubles team of the week winners Yuma Daijima/Alejandro Gandini. Creighton’s three losses have come at the hands of No. 73 UNLV (1-6), Omaha (3-4), and Big East opponent No. 70 St. John’s (3-4). The Bluejays finished last season with a 13-9 record. The last time the Big Red played Creighton in Lincoln, NU took down the Bluejays 4-0. Creighton last defeated the Huskers in 1961. Head coach Gerhard Posch is in his second season with CU, and is a Nebraska alumni.
NU looks to improve on its 2023-24 spring season finish of 17-10. The team reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, and concluded with the most dual wins in a season since 1990. The Big Red finished with a national ranking of No. 49, and Mueller being named First Team All-Big Ten.
