Huskers Travel to #29 Hawkeyes

With its first conference win claimed, the #62 Nebraska women’s tennis team seeks to notch another, as it heads to Iowa City for a Saturday dual. The Huskers (11-6, 1-5 Big Ten) take on the #29 Hawkeyes (10-5, 4-2 Big Ten) on March 29 at noon (CT).

Head coach German Dalmagro has tallied his 25th dual win at Nebraska, leading the Husker squad as conference competition continues. Iowa head coach Sasha Boros is in her ninth season with the Hawkeyes, seeking her 100th win with the team. Coming in at No. 29 in the ITA team rankings marks the highest of the season, the Boros era and a program best since 2010.

Sophomore Maria Taranova leads the Big Red in singles wins this spring (12), followed by senior Ana Zamburek (10). On the doubles courts, Lucy Loy and Zamburek have three Big Ten victories.

#29 Iowa (10-5, 4-2 Big Ten)
History: 8-8 Tied; Since their first matchup in 2005; the Huskers and the Hawkeyes have split 16 matches. Most recently, the Big Red fell to Iowa, 4-2, in Lincoln.
The Hawkeyes host NU with #106 Tereza Dejnozkova and duo #76 Vishwase/Dejnozkova in the ITA rankings. Iowa’s 10-5 start to the season is the best for the program since the 2016-17 campaign. The Hawkeyes are 8-1 this spring when opening the match by claiming the doubles points.

The Huskers are coming off the fall individual season in which the team tallied 34 singles wins. Taranova led the Big Red in fall singles wins with seven, and had a stellar freshman season in which she earned a 23-8 record, the most wins by a freshman since 2010. 

In the 2023-24 season, led by head coach Dalmagro, his first year at NU, the Huskers went 14-11. The team accomplished two Big Ten Tournament wins for the first time in program history and senior Raphaelle Lacasse was named an All-Big Ten First Team honoree.
