Nitache Earns Gold at Mix Cup, Christopulos Grabs Silver at DFB Pokal Team Challenge

Over the weekend, Husker duo Taylor Christopulos and Alex Nitache completed their first Team USA assignment in Stuttgart, Germany, from March 27 through March 30. Nitache won first place at the Mixed Cup for the United States. Christopulos competed at the Team Challenge, earning second place in the all-around and grabbing silver for the United States. 

Nitache earned second on floor with a 13.30 and silver on vault with a 14.15, coming just behind Stanford Riley Loos, scoring a 14.45 for first place. The sophomore had a sixth-place finish on parallel bars with an 11.70 and a fourth-place finish on high bar with a 12.10. Nitache didn’t compete on rings or pommel horse at the meet. The Knoxville, Tenn., native competed alongside Loos, Kiran Mandava, Nola Matthews and Simone Rose for the gold medal. 

For the team challenge, Christopulos grabbed fourth place on the floor with a 14.25 and fourth on the high bar, scoring a 13.55. The graduate held ninth place on p-bars with a 13.40.  He also earned top-20 finishes on pommel horse, still rings and vault. He scored a 13.20 on pommel horse (15th place), a 12.80 (19th place), and put up 14.10 on vault. Christopulos earned a combined score of 81.30 for the silver medal, coming just a .50 short of Japan’s Kazuma Kaya’s 81.800. 

Up next, Nebraska heads up north for the Big Ten Championships on April 4-5 at 6 p.m. The meet will be held at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
