Huskers Hunt for Hardware at Big Ten Championships

Lincoln, Neb.- The No. 4 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team looks to make its mark at the 2025 Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Friday, April 4. The individual event competitions will follow on Saturday, April 5. Both days are slated to start at 6 p.m. (CT) and fans can catch all the action live on the Big Ten Network. Graduate student Taylor Christopulos, who secured second place in the all-around competition last year, aims to surpass his previous performance. 

Last Time Out 
Nebraska hosted Michigan in its final regular-season competition. The Huskers narrowly lost, 335.200-335.900, to the Wolverines. NU’s team score was a season-high mark. Asher Cohen (still rings) had a career-high of 14.45. Chase Mondi grabbed the individual title on vault, his second straight, with a career-high of 14.65. Christopulos also hit a 14.75 on the floor for second place. 

Scouting the Competition 

No. 3 Michigan
Big Ten Regular Season Co-Champion Michigan looks to continue its success as it competes for the program's fifth straight title. At the meet against Nebraska, Fred Richard won the parallel bar and high-bar titles. Richard scored a 14.95, which was the highest score in the nation. Charlie Larson grabbed his fifth straight title on the floor and freshman Aaronson Mansberger won the pommel horse title. 

No. 5 Penn State
Penn State won its share of the regular season title at its final meet against NU. The Nittany Lions won four event titles at the meet. Seniors Josh Karnes and Matt Cormier were named to the gymnast-to-watch list this season. 

No. 6 Ohio State 
Last weekend, Ohio State dropped its regular-season finale to Illinois with a final score of 321.700-322.450. Kameron Nelson had his fifth floor title with a 14.50 and Drake Andrews earned a parallel bar title against the Illini. 

No. 7 Illinois 
Illinois defeated the Buckeyes during the away meet, outscoring OSU 322.450-321.700. Brandon Dang earned a perfect 15.00 on the pommel horse. Preston Ngai grabbed a 14.05 for the still rings title and took the high bar title with a 13.75, while Garrett Schooley had a 14.35 for the title on vault. The Fighting Illini’s Dang won Specialist of the Year, and Ian Sandoval took home Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
