Thomas Discusses New Leadership

Nebraska co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas met with members of the media following the team’s practice on Thursday. He discussed Dylan Raiola’s leadership and growth.

“Obviously a year passed, he’s just in a different stage in his process at this point. There is a familiarity with just what’s happening around him so we’re super excited about that and that allows him to maybe grow in some other areas like that. I think he is in a great place and excited about his humility to be better, his excitement and intensity to be better. I think all of those are in a great place right now.”

Thomas talked about Coach Holgorsen joining the coaching staff mid-season.

“In hindsight it was a blessing. I know he had spoke of the timing being unique, but we are so much ahead at this point then we would have been if he came in January, like he spoke of. It was a unique timing like you said it kind of came in the bye week. There was a learning curve not only from his end, but from our end as far as expectations and trying to update him on some of the terminology and what we were trying to get done and also vise versa of what he wanted to get done. This has been a really really good time for us to kind of get on the same page, same terminology, same thought process. Yes, in hindsight it was a tough situation, but we’re benefiting from it right now.”

He spoke on having players that know the sport well, while also bringing in new quarterbacks.

“The exciting part of that is that Dylan (Raiola) and Jalyn (Gramstad) are so good at helping them. That makes it so much easier in the room. I’ll try to speak to both sides of it. You want to try to speak to the highest, graduate-level if you will, of quarterback play. You want to coach the details, but also the big coaching points. But when they can intermingle and talk amongst themselves, that makes life a lot easier for me. I think the room is in a very, very good place that way, as far as helping each other.”

The Huskers will continue with spring practice on Saturday. The Husker Games, presented by FNBO, are set for Saturday, April 26. Fans will have the opportunity to get a preview of the 2025 Husker football, volleyball and soccer teams as part of the Husker Games events.
