Hamish Murray brought home his second straight top-five showing, while Brodie Cunningham added a second consecutive top-10 performance of his own with a career-best 66 (-4) in the final round to lead the Nebraska men's golf team to a third-place team finish at the Tiger Collegiate in Columbia, Mo., on Tuesday.
Murray, a senior from Sydney, Australia, took fifth individually in a 99-player field with a three-round total of 212 (+2) on the par-70, 7,158-yard layout of The Club at Old Hawthorne. Murray closed with an even-par 70 in Tuesday's final round that included 16 pars, one birdie and bogey. He opened the tournament with another even-par 70, before capping Monday with a second-round 72 (+2). It was Murray's fourth top-10 finish and seventh top-25 showing of the 2024-25 season.
Cunningham, a freshman from Glasgow, Scotland, continued his strong spring season with a career-best 66 on Tuesday to storm 26 spots up the leader board on his way to an eighth-place individual finish with a 213 (+3). Cunningham opened the tournament with a 69 (-1) before battling his way to a second-round 78. It was Cunningham's third consecutive top-15 finish and his fourth top-25 showing of the year.
Evan McDermott contributed a top-25 finish for the Big Red with a 216 (+6) to tie for 22nd. The redshirt sophomore from Spring Lake, Mich., capped a solid tournament with an even-par 70 on Tuesday, after rounds of 72 and 74 on Monday. It was his third top-25 performance of the year.
Rudy Sautron tied for 55th at 222 (+12), despite a 66 (-4) in Monday's second round. The sophomore from Reunion Island, France closed with a 74 on Tuesday, after opening the tournament with an 82 on Monday.
Reed Malleck rounded out the Nebraska lineup in a tie for 80th at 227, including his final-round 73 (+3) that counted toward NU's team score. The graduate student from York, Neb., opened with a 74, before adding an 80 in Monday's second round.
As a team, Nebraska locked up its fourth top-three team finish of the season with a three-round total of 854 (+14), including a 279 (-1) in Tuesday's final round. The Big Red opened with a 285 (+5), before managing a 290 (+10) in Monday's second round.
The hosts from Missouri won the team title with an even-par 840, including a final-round 275 (-5). St. Mary's (Calif.) finished second at 848 (+8), while Kansas State (861), Cincinnati (862) and Central Arkansas (862) rounded out the top five behind the Huskers in the 18-team tournament field. No. 26 UNLV took seventh at 863, nine shots behind Nebraska.
Missouri's Mattias Varjun earned medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 206 (-4), including a final-round 66. Cincinnati's Ryan Ford took second with an even-par 210, ahead of Missouri's Trent Mierl and Kalle Svederman from Central Arkansas who tied for third at 211.
Nebraska will be back in action next week at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, April 18-19.
