2024 (Freshman)
Jacory Barney Jr. has played in every game this season as a true freshman with three starts. He has caught 40 passes for 317 yards, rushed nine times for 119 yards and three touchdowns and returned 10 kickoffs for 187 yards and two punts for four yards. Barney leads the team with 40 receptions, 627 all-purpose yards and 187 kickoff return yards. He also ranks second on the team with three rushing touchdowns and is third in receiving yards. Entering the Wisconsin game, Barney ranked third nationally among all FBS freshmen in receptions. His 40 receptions are the third-most by a freshman in Nebraska history and have tied Wan'Dale Robinson (40 receptions in 2019) for the most catches by a true freshman in school history.
Barney had a 10-yard reception and returned three kickoffs for 75 yards in his Husker debut against UTEP. Barney totaled 92 all-purpose yards against Colorado. He had six catches for 29 yards, two carries for 28 yards and returned two kickoffs for 35 yards against the Buffs. He caught three passes for 29 yards against Northern Iowa and added a 10-yard touchdown run for his first career score. Barney had four catches for 25 yards against Illinois with a 26-yard kickoff return.
Barney made a big impact in Nebraska's road win at Purdue. He led the Huskers with a career-high 66 rushing yards on only four carries, including a career-long 31-yard run and a 25-yard touchdown. Barney also caught two catches for 28 yards against the Boilermakers with an eight-yard kickoff return on a squib kick, finishing the game with 102 all-purpose yards. Barney made his first career start against Rutgers and had three catches for 28 yards. He also started at Indiana and had a career-high eight catches for 32 yards. Barney also scored Nebraska's lone touchdown on a seven-yard touchdown run and returned two kickoffs for 20 yards. At Ohio State, Barney led Nebraska with seven receptions, finishing with 49 receiving yards. He had 86 yards from scrimmage against UCLA, catching four passes for 78 yards with an eight-yard rush. Barney had a career-long 40-yard reception against the Bruins. He started at USC and had two catches for nine yards, two punt returns for four yards and a 23-yard kickoff return.
Before Nebraska (Palmetto HS)
Barney Jr. was a versatile performer for Coach Mike Manasco at Miami Palmetto High School. A two-way player for the Panthers, he saw time on offense at quarterback, running back and wide receiver.
As a senior, Barney caught 15 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown, according to MaxPreps. He also passed for 189 yards and three touchdowns and added 100 yards rushing with one score. As an honorable-mention all-state selection as a junior, Barney had 37 receptions for 559 yards and four touchdowns, including a 91-yard touchdown. He added 217 passing yards and 184 rushing yards with four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. In his sophomore season, Barney rushed for 67 yards and threw for 124 yards with two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. He helped Palmetto to the state regional finals as a sophomore and the regional semifinals as a junior.
Barney was rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals, which ranked him among the top 60 wide receivers in the country. He was also ranked among the nation’s top 25 athletes by 247Sports.
