2024 (Senior)
MJ Sherman has played in every game with nine starts and has recorded 21 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, setting career highs in each of those categories.
Sherman started against UTEP and finished with a pair of solo tackles. Against Colorado, Sherman had a five-yard sack and was credited with three quarterback hurries. He had one tackle and a quarterback hurry against Northern Iowa. Sherman totaled a career-high six tackles against Illinois. He had three tackles at Purdue, including 1.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks to set career highs in both categories. Sherman totaled one solo tackle against Rutgers.
At Ohio State, Sherman recorded three tackles with a career-high 2.0 TFLs and 1.0 sack. He recorded one solo tackle against UCLA. Sherman made three tackles at USC.
2023 (Junior)
Sherman joined Nebraska as a transfer from Georgia in January of 2023. He started five games at linebacker and set career highs with 16 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Sherman made his Husker debut at Minnesota and had three tackles. He had a nine-yard sack against Northern Illinois for the first solo sack of his career. Sherman tied his career high with three tackles in a win at Illinois.
He recorded two tackles against Purdue, including a half sack, and recorded two tackles in a start at Michigan State.
Before Nebraska (St. John's College [D.C.]/Georgia)
Sherman transferred to Nebraska from Georgia, where he played in 39 games over three seasons from 2020 to 2022. He recorded 15 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and a half sack as a Bulldog. Sherman played in every game of Georgia's national championship seasons of 2021 and 2022.
During the shortened Covid season of 2020, Sherman played in nine of Georgia’s 10 games and recorded two tackles on kickoff coverage. He played in all 15 games of the 2021 season, seeing action at linebacker and on special teams. Sherman finished the year with eight tackles, a half TFL and two quarterback hurries. In his final season at Georgia in 2022, Sherman again saw action on defense and special teams, totaling five tackles, a half sack and three quarterback hurries. He recorded one tackle in the National Championship Game.
Prior to Georgia, Sherman was one of the nation’s top recruits at St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C. The four-star prospect was selected to play in the 2020 Under Armour All-America game, and Sherman was one of five finalists for the 2019 Butkus Award presented to the nation’s best high school linebacker. Sherman was regarded as the No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 18 overall recruit by ESPN.
Personal
MJ is the son of Sussie Sharpe, and he was born on Feb. 26, 2002. He is majoring in child, youth and family studies and is on track to graduate in August of 2024.
