Sophomore (2024-25)
Beatrix Tanko personally collected a pair of top finishes in the 50 free and 100 free in a dual against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Swimming a seasonal best in the 100 free, Tanko swam an impressive 52.80. She also helped contribute to the first place finishing 200 free relay (1:35.67) alongside teammates Jojo Randby, Maisie Gilford, and Giulia Marchi.
Tanko secured two seasonal bests against the Kansas Jayhawks (Nov. 1) by delivering a first-place finish in the 100 fly (54.23) and third-place in the 50 freestyle (23.62). She added to her wins by contributing to a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.25) alongside her teammates Maisie Gilford, Giulia Marchi and Gena Jorgenson, also swimming the leg of the 200 medley relay (1:42.56), finishing second.
Beatrix led strong finishes in the 200 free (1:52.20) getting a first-place finish as well as the 100 fly (57.11) in a dual against the Iowa State Cyclones (Oct. 25) at the Devaney Natatorium. She also contributed to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:44.76) alongside her teammates Marissa Laurin, Jojo Randby, and Maisie Gilford. Swimming a leg of the 400 free relay (3:27.63), she helped notch another first-place finish with a personal time of 52.52.
Tanko contributed to strong relay finishes in a dual against the Iowa Hawkeyes (Oct. 18). Swimming as legs in the 200 medley relay (1:44.81) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.89), she demonstrated impressive times. Individually, she finished in fourth-place in the 50 freestyle (24.45).
Beatrix Tanko opened her second season as a Husker with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a double-dual with No. 24 Minnesota and South Dakota at the Devaney Natatorium (Oct. 4). Tanko posted a time of 55.90 in the 100 fly, while adding a fourth-place finish in the 50 free (24.01). She also swam legs in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay against the Golden Gophers and Coyotes.
Freshman (2023-24)
Tanko was a key contributor for the Huskers in her freshman season. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 25 after a stellar performance against South Dakota State (Oct. 20) when she won two individual titles and helped two relay teams to first-place finishes.
Tanko excelled in the 100 butterfly, hitting her first NCAA B Standard at the Hawkeye Invite. She touched the wall in 53.26 to finish runner-up in the event.
Tanko went on to set a new career-best and broke the school record at the Big Ten Championships with a 10th-place finish and a time of 53.16. She added a pair of top-10 finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle at the Hawkeye Invite with final times of 23.43 and 51.29. Tanko earned 14 top-three finishes and six titles on the season, while contributing to 10 winning relays, including four against Rutgers (Feb. 2-3). She helped three relay teams at the Big Ten Championships move to second and third all-time for NU.
Before Nebraska
Tanko comes to Nebraska from Budapest, Hungary, where she grabbed a pair of first-place finishes with the Hungarian Age Group Relay Team at the 2022 Gymnasiade. In 2021, she won a silver medal in the 100 butterfly at the Hungarian Age Group Nationals. She’s had multiple appearances in the 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 free and 100 free at the Hungarian Nationals B-Finals and was a part of the 2019 bronze medal 4x100 freestyle relay team at the European Youth Olympic Festival.
Personal
The daughter of Peter and Eniko Tanko, Beatrix was born on Dec. 25, 2004. She is double-majoring in finance and computer science at Nebraska. Beatrix was selected to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for Fall 2023 and was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2024 for her service in the Lincoln community.
