Junior (2024-25)
Gilford posted impressive finishes in a dual against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Nov. 8. She finished in second in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.41. She also added a fifth place finish in the 100 fly (1:00.30). Maisie also contributed to a first place finish in the 200 free relay (1:35.67) alongside teammates Jojo Randby, Giulia Marchi, and Beatrix Tanko.
Gilford delivered two first-place finishes that produced two personal bests against the Kansas Jayhawks (Nov. 1). Gilford posted strong performances in the 50 freestyle (23.18) and 100 free (50.57). She also contributed to a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.25) alongside teammates Giulia Marchi, Gena Jorgenson and Beatrix Tanko, also swimming a leg of the 200 medley relay (1:42.56), finishing second.
Gilford swept the 50 freestyle (23.61) and the 100 free (51.68) in a dual against the Iowa State Cyclones at the Devaney Natatorium (Oct. 25). Maisie also contributed to a strong first place finish in the 400 free relay (3:27.63). Additionally, her 200 split in the first place 200 medley relay was 23.31.
Gilford continued her strong season in a dual against the Iowa Hawkeyes (Oct. 18). She posted strong individual performances in the 50 (23.98) and 100 freestlye (52.16) notching second-place finishes. In the 200 medley relay (1:44.81), Maisie alongside her team of Marissa Laurin, Jojo Randby, and Beatrix Tanko finished in second. Swimming a leg in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.89), Gilford contributed to an impressive second place finish.
Maisie Gilford opened her Nebraska career with several strong efforts in a double-dual against No. 24 Minnesota and South Dakota at the Devaney Natatorium (Oct. 4). Gilford posted a pair of third-place finishes in the 50 (23.51) and 100 (51.53) freestyles while also swimming a leg of Nebraska's third-place 200 medley relay. Her 50 free split in the 200 medley relay was 23.36, while her 100 free split in the 400 free relay was 51.13, helping the Huskers to a runner-up finish alongside Beatrix Tanko, Gena Jorgenson and Giulia Marchi against the Golden Gophers and Coyotes.
Before Nebraska
Gilford joined the Huskers in the fall of 2024. She competed internationally at the University of Bath, after competing as a high school student in Qatar. Gilford is expected to help Nebraska in the sprint freestyle events.
Gilford competed at the 2024 British Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre in April of 2024, where she posted her best times in the 50 free (26.09), 200 free (2:03.77) and 200 individual medley (2:23.31). She qualified for the championships, which served as Britain's Olympic Trials, in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter IM.
She also competed at Danish Nationals in July of 2024, recording a personal-best 57.04 in the 100-meter freestyle.
At the Golden Bear Meet in Zagreb, Croatia in June of 2024, Gilford finished second in the 100-meter freestyle, while adding third-place finishes in the 50-meter free and the 50-meter butterfly (29.03) for the University of Bath Swim Club. In March of 2024 she competed in the 50 and 200 free along with the 50-meter fly (28.55) at the Edinburgh International swim meet.
She also competed at British Summer Nationals in 2022.
In 2019, Gilford competed at the FINA World Cup, posting times of 27.67 in the 50-meter free and 32.41 in the 50-meter backstroke. She also competed at the British Swimming Summer Championships in 2019 as a high school junior at Doha College.
Personal
The daughter of Kevin and Alison Gilford, Maisie was born Sept. 9, 2003. She has a younger sister, Lara, and a younger brother, Fred. Maisie is majoring in mathematics at Nebraska.
