With Zedrick's assistance, the 2022-23 Huskers shattered the school scoring record with a 292.21 over 38.5 rounds, surpassing the previous mark of 298.77 set in 2021-22 by 6.56 strokes per round.
Zedrick helped guide freshman Kelli Ann Strand to the best individual season stroke average (72.05) in Nebraska history on Strand's way to All-Big Ten honors. Additionally, Miu Takahashi set the Nebraska sophomore stroke average record (73.49) while Lindsey Thiele (2nd, 74.88) and Michaela Vavrova (5th, 75.80) produced two of the top-five stroke averages by juniors in Husker history.
Graduate student Megan Whittaker also closed her career by competing in her second NCAA Regional and her fourth Big Ten Championship. Whittaker produced the No. 3 stroke average by a senior in school history (73.48) trailing only All-American and 2021 Big Ten Champion Kate Smith's 72.18 (2019-20) and 72.86 in (2020-21).
Zedrick joined Nebraska Head Coach Jeanne Sutherland’s first Husker staff on June 1, 2022, and brought six seasons of head coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level with him to Lincoln. He also spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Chattanooga.
“We’re very happy to add Matt to our staff,” Sutherland said. “I’ve had the privilege to watch him coach over the years and I’ve always been impressed with his knowledge and ability to communicate with players. His skills in player development and strategy will really add to our ability to compete at the highest level.”
From 2015-16 to 2020-21, Zedrick guided the Purdue Fort Wayne women’s golf program to some of the most successful seasons in program history.
His Mastodons teams rewrote virtually every school record on the course, including a 2020-21 team scoring average of 311.8. Purdue Fort Wayne’s top golfers, Holly Anderson and Linnzie Richner, set school records for 18, 36 and 54-hole scoring, while Anderson claimed school records for the best season and career stroke averages. Anderson capped her career as a second-team All-Horizon League selection in 2020-21.
In addition to their success on the course, Zedrick’s Mastodons claimed 19 WGCA Scholastic All-America honors in his six seasons leading the program.
Prior to his time at Purdue Fort Wayne, Zedrick spent the 2014-15 season as the men’s golf head coach at Garden City Community College in Kansas. He guided Skyler Tebo to an NJCAA Championship appearance in 2015. Tebo went on to compete at both UMKC and Fort Hays State.
Zedrick began his college coaching career in 2012-13 as the assistant women’s golf coach at Marshall. He spent two seasons with the Herd women’s golf team, helping Kristyn Morrone capture Conference USA Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. He also served as an assistant men’s golf coach at Marshall in 2014.
Matt and his wife, Gwen, have two daughters, Sophia and Tillie. Originally from Danville, Ill., Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Illinois State in 2010. He earned his master’s degree in adult education from Marshall in 2014.
Matt’s brother, Zac, is the associate men’s golf coach at Notre Dame.
