Alec Nichols is in his first season as an athletic trainer with the Nebraska football program in 2023. Nichols boasts previous experience in Power Five football and as an NFL intern.
Before joining the Husker staff, Nichols spent two years at LSU. He began is tenure with the Tigers as an athletic training intern with the track and field program during the 2021 spring season. Nichols then served as an athletic training intern with the football team for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In his role, he had a hand in all aspects of the athletic training needs for the football team, including on-field care and rehabilitation while working in conjunction with the sports dietitian and strength and conditioning staffs.
Nichols gained professional experience as a seasonal athletic training intern with the Kansas City Chiefs for nearly two years from 2019 to 2021. He also served as a summer athletic training intern with the Chiefs for one year from 2017 to 2018. His first experience came while he was a student at Iowa State, where he worked with the football, wrestling and men's basketball programs during his time as an undergraduate.
Nichols earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Iowa State in 2019. He went on to receive a master's degree in performance enhancement and injury prevention from California University of Pennsylvania in 2020.
